New China Restaurant Information

Tucked along Tyler Road in Birmingham, New China Restaurant has the kind of unassuming exterior that longtime locals tend to trust. Step inside, and it feels exactly like the kind of neighborhood Chinese spot people keep coming back to-comfortable, straightforward, and focused on getting the food right. The location is easy to find, with convenient parking, which already makes it a practical choice for a quick lunch or casual dinner.

The menu is what you’d expect from a classic American-Chinese diner, but with enough variety to keep things interesting. Familiar favorites like General Tso’s chicken, sweet and sour pork, and lo mein are all here, alongside a solid selection of fried rice, egg rolls, and combination platters. Portions are generous, which seems to be a consistent theme mentioned across many customer reviews, and it’s easy to end up with leftovers. On one visit, the sesame chicken stood out with a nice balance of sweetness and crisp texture, while the shrimp fried rice had a fresh, well-seasoned flavor without being overly greasy-a detail that often separates average spots from reliable ones.

Service tends to be quick and efficient, especially during busy hours. Orders are taken promptly, and food arrives hot, usually within minutes if you’re dining in. The staff may not be overly chatty, but they’re attentive and clearly experienced, which fits the overall no-frills vibe of the place. Takeout orders also seem to be a big part of the business, and judging by the steady stream of customers picking up meals, it’s a go-to for locals who want something satisfying without a long wait.

The atmosphere is simple, with modest décor and a clean dining area that feels functional rather than trendy. It’s not the kind of place you’d pick for a special occasion, but that’s not really the point. Instead, New China Restaurant delivers a dependable experience-good food, fair prices, and a menu that covers all the bases. While it may not offer the modern twists or upscale presentation you’d find in newer establishments, it holds its own by sticking to what it does best, which is serving familiar dishes that hit the spot when you’re craving classic Chinese comfort food.

What People's Say About Place

I work down the rd from there and go there for lunch, usually buy 4or5 egg rolls and my favorite General tso chicken no spice. Was there yesterday 10/23/2025 and had General Tso's aka (General Chows Chicken) and it was absolutely delicious. People there are friendly ,great clean place to eat and relax unwind for an hr. Gets better everytime I eat there. Pics later

The serving sizes are huge for the price—love that for me lol. The egg rolls were massive and super tasty. I even reheated one in the air fryer the next day and it stayed crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—impressive! I’m giving 4 out of 5 because I’ve had better Chinese food elsewhere, but this was still really good, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Just moved here, & I'm so thankful I found this hidden gem! I looked up over 20 places, & I didn't see what I wanted on the menu I'm so thankful I called in and asked if they have Tofu & they did! I made my own spicy Tofu with broccoli and add a side of brown sauce (which is the best & great size) They have the best prices in Hoover! This will be my only to go spot for Chinese food. It's well worth the drive in a very beautiful neighborhood to the plaza. One of my favorite things is the crispy noodles they make there's fresh. I will be getting food here weekly very generous with the portions. I highly recommend everyone try this spot, & if you don't see something on there menu just call & ask. Hidden gem thank you so much for the wonderful food. Thank you for always remembering me as soon as I call in.

It’s a bit chaotic inside but it's a pretty authentic Chinese fast food restaurant, our call in take out order was processed quickly. Value is excellent for the price, you end up with heaping portions of food enough to last you a few meals.

Best Chinese around! They are the nicest folks around. At this point I feel like they know who I am as soon as I walk in just based off my order.

Man , this is my spot ! Food is always on point. Price is good for the portion size . Customer A1! I got the house fried rice but have tried several things from here. always good and fresh . I paid a little under $12 plus tip for this portion size and well worth it ! House fried rice

I would eat here every single day if I could. The chicken with garlic sauce is one of my favorites. The service was also amazing, prompt, and so kind and helpful.

This was my first time coming here after visiting the new Piggly Wiggly. I ordered the Mongolian delight and added mushrooms. I upscaled the rice to fried for a dollar more but could have been satisfied with the plain white rice. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes and it was. The Mongolian delight was good but the chicken was breaded and popcorn size. This wasn't what I was expecting and not my preference for my chicken. I will order the Surf and Turf next time or maybe request the chicken not to be breaded if that is even possible.
